Carmelo Anthony says he never had a problem with Jeremy Lin
Jeremy Lin hugged and talked to his old teammates before and after the Rockets destroyed the Knicks 131-103 last night.
Prior to tip off, Lin hugged Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton, then went to the Knicks’ bench and shook hands with Mike Woodson.
The depiction has been that Anthony and Lin weren’t close professionally and personally. But Anthony has tried to disprove that. He hugged Lin, said something to him and patted him on the head.
“Because I don’t have no problem with him,” Anthony said. “He was my teammate, he’s a cool guy. I have no problem with him as a person.”
“It was good to be back on the court with him, playing and competing,” Anthony said. “I’m pretty sure he was excited about playing this game and winning this game. It was good to see him.”
Some Knicks, including Iman Shumpert and Anthony went over and hugged Lin after the blowout was over.
“I was just catching up and saying hello,” Lin said. “They've had a great start to the season. He won an Olympic gold medal. We were just catching up and saying congrats to each other. I appreciate them. That was very classy on their part. They’re all classy over there.”
Anthony was asked whether Lin has any pressure to live up to last year or his big contract.
“Here?” Anthony said. “I don’t think he’s playing with any pressure at all. All of the pressure was being in New York. I don’t think he’s facing any pressure. Guys like [James] Harden and [Chandler] Parsons, guys like that can take a little bit of pressure off of Jeremy. I don’t think he’s playing with that much pressure.”
Lin has said he thought he would be back with the Knicks. But they decided not to match Houston’s three-year, $25.1 million offer to him. Lin will make his only appearance at the Garden is Dec. 17.
“I enjoyed playing for the fans, that was the biggest thing,” Lin said. “But I had a lot of peace about it right when it happened because I know God has the perfect plan. It didn't shake it out the way everybody thought it would but I’m still very very at peace with it.”
