The Knicks will begin working out draft prospects tomorrow at their practice facility with Xavier point guard and Hempstead product Tu Holloway highlighting the first group.

Also working out tomorrow will be Syracuse point guard Scoop Jardine, Texas A&M forward Kris Middleton, Northwestern forward John Shurna, Temple center Michael Eric and Florida State center Bernard James.

The Knicks don’t have a first-round pick in the June 28 NBA Draft. As of now they will select 48th.

In the past, the Knicks haven’t been shy about acquiring - or buying - a late first-round pick. They might not be as willing this year  for multiple reasons, including the rule in the new CBA that a team can spend $3 million annually on trades. It used to be they could include $3 million in any trade.  Also, the Knicks may not want to guarantee any long-term deals with such limited cap space.

But that could change if they find a player they believe can help them immediately in this draft or can get someone to deal them a first-round pick for Toney Douglas.

Also, the Knicks could have additional resources if the NBA Players Union wins the appeal to get Jeremy Lin and Steve Novak their “Early Bird” rights. It would mean the Knicks could sign each or both men without using their midlevel or biannual exceptions. The Knicks could then use those exceptions on other free agents.

But if the Players Union loses the appeal, it’s expected the Knicks will use most if not all of the midlevel will go to Lin and the $1.9 million biannual might not be enough to secure Novak.
