Jeremy Lin may not play again this season

The Knicks would have to force a Game 5 in their series against the Heat for Jeremy Lin to have a chance of playing again this season.

But even if the Knicks get there, Lin isn't sure if he'll be able to play.

Lin said his surgically repaired left knee felt sore after playing 3-on-3 yesterday and all but ruled himself out of Game 4 Sunday.

“I’ll probably get one more day of contact maybe in between now and the next game and I haven’t been able to load it or jump or explode or drive by somebody the way I want to,” Lin said. “So it’s going to be longer than that.”

In between Games 1 and 2 in Miami, Lin said he was hoping he would be able to play by the end of this week. But he’s not comfortable doing all the necessary things to play an NBA game, and especially once against a team that plays as fast and forceful as the Heat.

Lin had surgery April 2 and was expected to miss about six weeks. He said the plan now is to play on it one day and take the next day off. So he said either tomorrow or Saturday, depending on how he feels, he will get back on the court and try to do more.

“That’s what we’re going to do, kind of one day load it and take the next day off and see how quickly I can get to the point where I can trust the knee and not think about it because I don’t have my full explosiveness,” he said. “More importantly, defensively being able to move laterally and cut and trying to recover I haven’t really tried to do that yet.”

I’m still getting better every day. I did a lot yesterday, more than I’ve ever done. It is positive. I’m going in the right direction. I’m still ahead of schedule. I’m not two weeks ahead of schedule.

The Knicks are down 0-2 in the best-of-seven series to the Heat. Game 3 is tonight.

“I want to take it day by day,” Lin said. “Game 4 doesn’t look great. Game 5 I have no idea.”
