  • CMJ Wrap Up: Tips for CMJ bands

So I made it to about a dozen bands last week, and I have some stray observations that might just help out some struggling band out there:

    1. Bring extra strings: You might thing this is a given, but two different shows I was at were interrupted because of string breakage. Both bands had to go to the crowd for extras.

    2. Say who you are, multiple times: Again, a couple bands were guilty of this. If I'm bouncing around from venue to venue, I don't always know who's on stage when I get there. Tell me who you are.

    3. If you do a cover, make it a good one, or, stay away from covers: If you're a largely unknown band, this song will be your most recognizable — and the one that everyone talks about. If you do a bad job of it, that's not a good thing. And, don't you really want people to remember you for you?

Anyway, these are just somethings I noticed over the course of the week. Feel free to listen or not. Though I am pretty serious about number 2.
