Jack White collabs with Carl Sagan?
Well, no. Not really. Carl Sagan is dead. But White's Third Man Records has just announced that it will be releasing a 7-inch single of "A Glorious Dawn," a project by The Symphony of Science, the brain child of John Boswell. His thing is remixing old clips of science heavyweights into loungey, Auto-Tuned club jams. It's really cool. You should give it a listen even if both science and lounge music turn you off; you may surprise yourself.
This is "A Glorious Dawn" (feat. Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking):
And this is "We Are All Connected" (feat. Sagan, Feynman, deGrasse Tyson & Bill Nye):
Coincidentally, I'm currently working on a book which incorporates alien life forms, and this one answered a lot of questions for me.

Jack White explains
Here's Jack White and his new band, The Dead Weather, just shooting the breeze. I know White's persona can really rub some people the wrong way, but I really love it. Also, his hair is getting magnificent.
The other band members are no slouches either.
Oh, you want to hear what they sound like? Here's "Treat Me Like Your Mother."

Jack White's new band
By eh
Jack White's latest project, The Dead Weather, just held their first performance in the UK. From The Basement has video. It's not the greatest quality audio, but you can hear White's signature dirty blues style is alive and well.

New Brendan Benson
By eh
Brendan Benson, occasional collaborator with Jack White, freaks out on his new album. "My Old, Familiar Friend" drops Aug. 8, but the preview track "Feel Like Taking You Home," is making the rounds. Listen here.
Some one has been listening to a lot of dance music, I think. It's alright, just a lot different from his prior stuff.
I'm definitely curious to hear the rest of the album.

White Stripes Canada Docu
By eh
Remember that crazy tour of Canada the White Stripes did in 2007, where they hit up every province and territory and played all manner of wacky shows? Well, Jack White and friends are releasing a documentary film on the whole experience.
White spoke to the CBC about it. From the story:
According to White, he and drummer Meg White dreamt up the odd performances on the fly.
"We'd make up an idea at breakfast of where we'd play that day, whether it was on a boat, bus, school or city park, then we'd make it happen," White recalled. The article also hints that another White Stripes album is on the way.

White Stripes on Conan
By eh
I was a little underwhelmed by the White Stripes performance on the last ever episode of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" when I watched it Friday. I like it a little better now.
But I still think it's an odd choice. "I can tell that we are gonna be friends" is a nice little ditty, but I always thought it was kind of a minor Stripes song. Given that this was the Conan send off, I expected something a little more grand. Maybe a reprise of this one, or something.
This is the album version:
Otherwise, I thought the whole show was a nice goodbye.
ETA: Oho! A quick perusal of the comments over on Stereogum (second only in trustworthiness to Wikipedia, I know), reveals that "We Are Gonna Be Friends" is Conan's favorite song. OK then.

Bonnaroo stream
By eh
That I dislike camping is only one of many reasons I'll probably never make it down to Bonnaroo, the annual summer jam-friendly fest down in Tennessee. So very nicely, Bonnaroo is bringing the festival to me, digitally. Some of it anyway. They're currently offering the Raconteurs set from last summer as a video stream (below), as well as other various downloads.
