    bear ceuse

    Live Review: Bear Ceuse@ Arlenes Grocery, Jan 6, 2010

    My first live show of 2010. And it wasn't a bad start.

    Bear Ceuse is a band (or a man, it wasn't clear if the name refered to the trio on stage, or just the lead singer) from St. Louis. Their frontman, possibly Bear, looked like a young Kevin Smith. The music was solid — your basic rock. They're a young band, and they're still wearing their influences on their sleeves. But they're good influences: A little Dinosaur Jr., a little Sonic Youth.

    The singer has a great voice; strong and pure and ... well I can't say emotive without conjuring the wrong genre, but he conveys a great range of feeling. I think, in all, they're a band on the verge, and in a year or so they could be something really great.
