Learn the latest buzz words in advertising

As an ex-advertising creative director, I find it amazing how vastly the ad world has changed in the last decade.

One big difference? Nowadays if you want to be able to walk your talk, it's essential you have a newfangled vocabulary.

According to Lindsay Mure, president of AdFemme.com, an organization for women in advertising, here are the hottest ad buzz words:

1. BMT: This stands for bid management tool, a technology that helps Web sites manage their keyword bids on search engines.

2. UI: This stands for user interface, a place to manage an online account.

3. CPA: This means cost per action (or acquisition). If you buy media on a CPA basis, you are paying only when a lead is generated or a sale is made.

4. OOH: This is an abbreviation for out of home advertising, such as billboards and taxi and phone booth ads.

5. Coreg: This is short for co-registration, an online lead-generation term used mostly for check boxes within a registration form.

6. SEM and SEO: These are acronyms for search engine marketer and search engine optimization.

7. Folksonomy: This is used to describe a new form of tagging, which makes content easier for folks everywhere to search everywhere and better find what they're seeking.
