Campaign advisers slated to talk
Nobel laureates and campaign advisers to Sens. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain will be among the speakers at the 56th annual management conference of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business on Friday.
The event kicks off with a luncheon and keynote address at noon in the Grand Ballroom of the Chicago Marriott Downtown, 540 N. Michigan Ave. It is followed by 13 concurrent panel sessions from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the school's Gleacher Center, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive.
Professor Gary Becker, winner of the 1992 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, will moderate the panel on "Consumer Protection Legislation: Subprime Mortgages and Beyond" at 2 p.m.
Also at 2 p.m., Austan Goolsbee, Steven Davis and Roger Altman will discuss how the coming election will affect the U.S. and world economy. Goolsbee, an economics professor at the U. of C.'s graduate school, is senior economic adviser to Obama. Davis, professor of international business and economics at the school, is an outside economic adviser to McCain's campaign, and Altman, chairman and co-CEO of Evercore Partners, is adviser to Clinton.
