The wait is over — Wegmans Brooklyn opens Sunday at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The new 74,000-square-foot store on Flushing Avenue in the Admiral’s Row Development of the Brooklyn Navy Yard will start welcoming customers at 7 a.m. for its grand opening on Sunday.

When customers walk through the doors, they’ll see an in-store café with approximately 100 seats for shoppers to enjoy meals, a bar with food, wine, beer and spirits and 50,000 items in all, including 2,000 of which are organic, including fresh seafood cut daily, produce and 300 cheese varieties.

Meals at Wegmans, including sushi, pizza, burgers, salad, and soups, will be prepared by Executive Chef Stephen De Lucia and his culinary staff of 157. Customers can sit at the cafe and eat or take it all to go.

Wegmans deliveries by Instacart begin Oct. 30.

Over the last five months, the 103-year-old company hired than 540 employees — cooks, entry-level management chefs, entry-level management, full-time overnight workers, part-time bakers, and full-time customer service employees— for the new store, which is the first in New York City.

Brooklyn is Wegmans’ 101st store overall and the 47th location in New York State, where the company employs more than 25,000 people.

“The Brooklyn community has been eagerly awaiting the opening date for this store,” said Todd Ferrera, vice president and district manager in a news release. “We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone.”
