Drinks from the deep freeze
Alcoholic shakes from BLT.
Why choose between a sweet dessert and a potent cocktail? With these concoctions, you don't have to. They combine both ideas, making for treats that'll satisfy your adult and kiddie cravings.
Spiked milkshake Neither the burgers nor the milkshakes are run-of-the-mill at this Laurent Tourondel restaurant. While a classic black-and-white, rocky road or peanut butter shake would be a more-than-adequate addition to any salmon or lamb burger, we prefer a drink with a little kick. BLT's spiked creations come in four incarnations -- "Grandma's Treat" (Maker's Mark, caramel syrup and vanilla ice cream), The Shocker (Stoli Vanil, oreos and vanilla ice cream), The Go-Go (Kahlua, Bailey's, espresso and coffee ice cream) and Night Rider (Kahlua, chocolate liqueur, Oreos and chocolate ice cream). ( $11; BLT Burger; 470 Sixth Ave., between 11th and 12th streets; 212-243-8226)
Guinness float Justin Timberlake fans might hang around this former 'NSYNC-er-owned barbecue joint for a rare JT spotting. But we go for the Guinness floats. Sure, a plain glass of Guinness already tastes something like a milkshake, but a scoop of vanilla ice cream floating on top takes it even further into the dessert zone. If the drink by itself doesn't offer enough stomach satisfaction, sit on the sidewalk dining patio and gobble up a tasty plate of ribs or fried chicken. ($9; Southern Hospitality; 1460 Second Ave. at 76th Street; 212-249-10001)
Alcohol-infused Sno-Cone Forget about your beloved Snoopy Sno-Cone machine for a minute. Instead of just containing syrup and ice, this version from Dave & Buster's is made with hazelnut liqueur Frangelico. While indulging your inner child with Sno-Cones, make sure to get in some game-time at D&B, with Skee Ball, Dance Dance Revolution, shuffleboard and other games. ($7; Dave and Buster's; 234 W. 42nd St., between Broadway and Eighth Avenue; 646-495-2015)
Citrus and prosecco float After enjoying a pasta dish or smattering of Italian plates from executive chef Anne Burrell (Mario Batali's sous chef on "Iron Chef America"), check out this new summertime dessert. Served in a large wine glass, slices of orange and grapefruit, tangerine sorbetto and marscapone gelato float on top of bubbly prosecco. ($8; Centro Vinoteca; 74 Seventh Ave. South, between Bleecker and Barrow streets; 212-367-7470)
