Amy Schumer’s Netflix special attacked by online trolls; comedian defends herself

Amy Schumer has responded to politically inspired internet trolls who attacked the Netflix page for her new stand-up special in order to lower the star ratings.

As first reported by the comedy website Splitsider.com, members of the Reddit forum The_Donald organized a campaign that led to a spate of one-star ratings for “The Leather Special.”

“I am so proud of my special and grateful to all the people spreading love online about it,” Schumer, 35, posted on Instagram. “I am the first female comic who is selling out arenas all over the world and so grateful for that. I am embarrassed for the ‘journalists’ who report on trolls activities as if it’s news.”

Despite a similar campaign against her memoir “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo” last year, the book became a bestseller, and in June, Schumer became the first female stand-up to headline Madison Square Garden. Her previous special, for HBO, earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding variety music or comedy special.

She concluded her post by thanking the trolls, saying, “It fills me with hope and power to see you all furiously posting so as always accuse me of whatever lies you want. Call me a whale. Call me a thief and I will continue to rise and fight and lead. I know who I am. I am strong and beautiful and will use my voice my whole time on this earth.”

On May 12, Schumer will appear in the big-screen comedy “Snatched” opposite Goldie Hawn.
