Amy Schumer says she was hospitalized while filming movie in Hawaii

Amy Schumer, who canceled bookstore appearances in Huntington and elsewhere last week because of what booksellers were told was illness, says she was hospitalized this summer while shooting a film in Hawaii.

“I got really sick there,” the Rockville Centre-raised comic, 35, said on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Monday night. “I got bronchitis and I was, like, exhausted so I was in the hospital [and] we had to stop shooting for a week.” She added, “It was just rock bottom. . . . I couldn’t speak and I coughed so hard . . . that I fractured my own ribs. Yeah. So that still kinda smarts.”

On Aug. 13, “Trainwreck” star Schumer tweeted she had just finished production on her next feature, an untitled mother-daughter adventure comedy.

“Goodbye Hawaii,” Schumer tweeted from the film’s location. “Thank you for having us. So much love to the crew of our movie and the amazing people of Hawaii!” In a second tweet she thanked Oscar-winner Goldie Hawn, 70, who plays her mother. “That’s a wrap. @goldiehawn I love you. Thank you for saying yes.”

Schumer also told Colbert she “was too sick” to visit Kauai’s Waimea Canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. “I was bedridden,” she said.

The comedian also joked that she could not keep up with what she characterized as Hawaii’s fit lifestyle. “I like to sit and not move. And everyone hikes there. . . . Everyone hikes every day. . . . They’re so healthy, and they’re just like, dogs hike, cats — you’ll see on a hike. I went hiking and somebody’s like, ‘On your left,’ and it was, like, a baby in a diaper was, like, blowing past me.”
