Channing Tatum to star in Disney’s ‘Splash’ remake as merman, report says

“Magic Mike” and “21 Jump Street” star Channing Tatum will play a merman in Disney’s planned remake of the 1984 mermaid romantic comedy “Splash.”

The Hollywood Reporter said Monday that the new gender-reversed film will star Jillian Bell in the Tom Hanks role with Tatum, 36, succeeding mermaid Daryl Hannah.

Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will produce the film, along with Tatum and others. No director was announced.

Marja-Lewis Ryan, writer-director of the upcoming Netflix telefilm “6 Balloons,” is scriptwriter. Bell, upcoming in “Office Christmas Party” and “Fist Fight,” appeared with Tatum in the sequel “22 Jump Street.”
