“Luther” star Idris Elba on Monday shot down tabloid claims that he and pop icon Madonna were an item.
“Am I sleeping with Madonna? No [expletive],” Elba tweeted. “Don’t believe the Hype.”
A rumor began circulating over the weekend when a British tabloid said that the two arrived together at a London restaurant after Elba won his debut kickboxing match — part of his in-production reality series “Idris Elba: Fighter” for Discovery Networks International. The actor-producer, 44, and Madonna, 58, arrived at a party during the early-morning hours and were said to be behaving romantically in public.
Madonna had attended the match at York Hall in Elba’s native London, posting a video excerpt of it on her Instagram page with the caption “Idris Elba Smashes it at York Hall!”
The two were previously acquainted. Elba, who also starred on “The Wire,” posted a photo on Twitter last November showing himself on a stage holding hands with Madonna, with other people behind them. “Legend,” he wrote.
“Idris Elba: Fighter,” announced in August and set to air in early 2017, takes the five-time Emmy nominee to the U.K., Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand as he undertakes training to become a professional kickboxer. He and Discovery Networks International had previously collaborated on the Discovery series “Idris Elba: No Limits.”
