‘SNL’ star Pete Davidson says he’s sober for the first time in eight years

Explaining why he has “kinda been missing” from “Saturday Night Live” and from social media, “SNL’s” Pete Davidson says he has been focusing on giving up drugs.

“Just wanted to let you guys know I’m okay,” the 23-year-old posted Monday night on Instagram, captioning a photo of himself with what appeared to be a large cup of takeout coffee. “I know I’ve kinda been missing, on social media and on the show. I quit drugs and am happy and sober for the first time in 8 years.”

Davidson, who has used medical marijuana to help alleviate symptoms of Crohn’s disease, added, “It wasn’t easy, but I got a great girl, great friends and I consider myself a lucky man. I’ll always be here for you guys, I promise. Remember to never give up hope because sometimes that’s all we got. We are a family and I appreciate all your love and support. It’s nice to be back in action.”

Shortly afterward, he posted two images of himself with his girlfriend, Cazzie David, 22, daughter of “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David and his now ex-wife environmental activist Laurie David. “Couldn’t pick one [photo] so I went with two,” Davidson wrote. “Luckiest guy in the world #babygirl.”

A Staten Island native whose firefighter father was killed in the line of duty during the 9/11 World Trade Center terror attack, Davidson separately tweeted that he wanted to change his Twitter handle from the current PetesWeed. “I wanna change my @ but idk [I don’t know] what to and a lot of people know me by this…”

His last tweet had been on Feb. 12, and he has deleted all his Instagram posts prior to Monday.
