In one of those moves that reliably stoke the already over-stoked interest of “Game of Thrones” fans several times each season, HBO has released plot outlines for the May 15 and May 22 episodes.
If they are to be believed — and why shouldn’t they be? — Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) steps forward again with some major storylines.
Here are the descriptions. For the May 15 episode, titled “Book of the Stranger,” this: “Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) strikes a deal. Jorah (Iain Glen) and Daario (Michiel Huisman) undertake a difficult task. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey) try to improve their situation.” Dan Sackheim directs, while showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss write.
And for May 22’s “The Door”:
“Tyrion seeks a strange ally. Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) learns a great deal. Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) goes on a mission. Arya (Maisie Williams) is given a chance to prove herself.”
Such descriptions are, of course, artfully incomplete but (of course) that doesn’t stop fans from parsing every word. The title of the May 15 episode (which was previously announced) could indicate that the so-called High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) assumes a key role, too, that week, because “The Stranger” is a key figure in the Faith of the Seven religion of Westeros, representing death. Death, and the Stranger, have been known to stalk Westeros, but who knew the Stranger had also written a book?
“The Door”? Well, there are lots of doors in Westeros, but some fans — who dig through the voluminous wiki sites devoted to “Game of Thrones” and “A Song of Ice and Fire” as regularly as reporters — have already decided this refers to the so-called “Moon Door,” in the ancient castle of Eyrie.
As you may recall, poor Lady Lysa (Kate Dickie) was pushed through that moon door by Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) in the fourth season.
Could this then indicate/hint that the sixth season’s first entrance of Littlefinger will take place during that episode? Baelish played such a prominent role in Sansa Stark’s (Sophie Turner) fate and has his own complicated and devious back story.
Probably not. Still, fun to speculate.
