Fox has issued a statement saying Chris Colfer will in fact be returning for the sixth and final season. A flurry of online reports - and yes, contradictory ones - earlier today said Chris Colfer, one of the defining cast members of "Glee" over the last five seasons if not the defining one, would be leaving the series and not return for its final season.
They were based a tweet from Colfer - or someone purporting to be Colfer - saying "Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly...
A number of prominent websites including the Hollywood Reporter and EW qucikly picked up the tweet as fact, prompting a quick response from Fox, saying his account had been hacked:
"We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s twitter account has been hacked. Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season."
Other prominent "Glee" cast members, most recently Naya Rivera, all seem to have been caught up in the pernicious whirl of online gossip and innuendo relating to their continued employment. But this certainly marks the first time a Twitter account has actually been hacked.
