The Joe Jonas interview: DNCE’s new album, life in NYC & Gigi Hadid

This is Joe Jonas’ month!

DNCE, the electro-pop band fronted by Jonas, released the video for its debut single “Cake by the Ocean” Friday, and on Oct. 23, 2015, the band’s debut album will be released.

In an exclusive interview with amNewYork at the Disaronno Wears Cavalli launch party Thursday at Manhattan’s Milk Studios, Jonas spoke about the new video, what to expect from the new album, his favorite NYC haunts, the presidential election — and if girlfriend Gigi Hadid is a New York Rangers fan!

Watch the video for the entire interview, but below, excerpts:

On shooting the “Cake By The Ocean”: “It was really messy … It was surprisingly easy to clean up. We got lucky. It was a beautiful day [in Huntington Beach, Calif.], and it was just a great time. It was a huge party.”

On DNCE’s new EP: “You can expect funky tunes, inspired by everything from Earth, Wind & Fire to Hall & Oates, to current stuff. I can’t wait to share this music with the world. It’s something that I’ve been holding for awhile. It’s definitely something different than I’ve done before.”

Favorite NYC haunts: “You have to go uptown to J.G. Melon, and get a burger, it’s amazing. I also love Miss Lily’s.”

On the New York Rangers: “I’m a huge sports fan. It’s a good way to spend a weekend. The Rangers are killing it.”

On Gigi Hadid: “She’s a [Rangers] fan for sure. She loves sports.”

On the presidential election: “It’s definitely entertaining. It will be an interesting race.”
