Why celebs are singing 'Hamilton' songs for charity

Celebrities are serenading Alexander Hamilton in an effort to raise money to benefit immigrants and refugees, and it all started with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The “Hamilton” creator launched a social media challenge Monday -- two days before he dropped a new music video for “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” from his “Hamilton Mixtape” -- asking fans and fellow A-listers to tweet using #Ham4All.

Participants are encouraged to record a video of themselves singing their favorite “Hamilton” song, share it on social media and challenge their friends to donate $10 to the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, which provides legal services and aid to immigrants. Plus, Miranda is giving away two VIP tickets to the opening night of “Hamilton” in Los Angeles on Aug. 16 to one lucky donor.

Several celebrities have already hopped onto the #Ham4All trending challenge (which is giving us serious ice bucket challenge flashbacks) and posted Twitter videos of themselves singing tracks from the Broadway production.
