On a hot, steamy New York summer day, nothing seems better than a refreshing dip in a pool. But beware, many others may be having the same idea.

The city's public outdoor pools are guaranteed to be crowded any time the mercury rises. Among the best options are the city's Astoria pool in Queens and the state Riverbank Park facility at 145th Street and Riverside Drive in Manhattan. The following is a full list of public pools.
