Tennis anyone?

The tennis season at public courts run by the city starts the first Saturday in April and continues to the third Sunday of November.

The city requires permits for their always-in-demand courts, so some patience, determination and will to play is needed to actually get out there and play. All players must have permits or single-play (one-time use) tickets.

To get info on obtaining tennis permits, the Parks Department refers calls to:
-Bronx (718) 430-1840

-Brooklyn (718) 965-8914 or (718) 965-8941 or (718) 965-8913
-Manhattan (212) 360-8131
-Queens (718) 263-4121
-Staten Island (718) 390-8000

Also note that most courts don't take reservations -- courts are awarded on a first-come, first-service basis. The only courts to take reservations are those in Central Park and Prospect Park. Even these are tricky. Reservation tickets must be purchased in advance -- either by mail or in person at the following locations, where permits also can be purchased:

Bronx
Ranaqua
1 Bronx River Parkway
Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Brooklyn
Litchfield Villa
95 Prospect Park West at Fifth Street
Monday - Friday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Manhattan
The Arsenal
830 Fifth Ave. at 64th Street.
