Noomi Rapace in talks to play Amy Winehouse

The star of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” could play soul-singer Amy Winehouse in a biographical film, according to reports.

The film, currently titled “Amy Winehouse,” is getting underway in the wake of Asif Kapadia’s critically acclaimed documentary “Amy,” an unsparing look at the troubled British singer and her father, Mitch Winehouse, who distanced himself from that film upon its release earlier this year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the bio-pic will be written and directed by Irish filmmaker Kristen Sheridan, an Oscar-nominee for her 2002 drama “In America,” and produced by Alexandra Whitlin. The filmmakers are in talks with Mitch Winehouse to obtain rights to his daughter’s music.

Amy Winehouse shot to stardom in America with “Rehab,” a soul-driven pop single from her 2006 album “Back to Black.” She won five Grammys in 2008 but never released another album. She died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

Rapace is the Swedish actress best known as the goth-rock hacker Lisbeth Salander in the film versions of Stieg Larsson’s “Dragon Tattoo” novels. More recently, Rapace has been seen opposite Tom Hardy in the crime drama “Child 44” and battling aliens in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.”
