JOSE DE SAN MARTIN

The statue of Jose de San Martin is located on 59th Street at the Avenue of the Americas. José de San Martin, an Argentine general, helped Argentina, Chile and Peru gain independence from the Spaniards. The monument depicts him leading his armed forces into battle. (NYNewsday.com / July 1, 2003)
