Broadway Notes

'Godspell' revival postponed After a long week of speculation, it's finally been confirmed that the Broadway revival of "Godspell," which was supposed to open in the fall, has been indefinitely postponed. "I am devastated that, due to the loss of a major investor in the harsh reality of a slowing economy, there were no other options at this time than to postpone," producer Adam Epstein said. Other "postponed" Broadway productions include "For Colored Girls," "Nice Work if You Can Get It" and "Brigadoon."

Mamet's plays find new homes Within hours of the "Godspell" announcement, the producers of David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" revealed that their revival would take the place of "Godspell" at the Barrymore Theatre. "Speed-the-Plow," which stars Jeremy Piven and Raul Esparza, was originally expected to play the Belasco Theatre. Instead, another Mamet revival, "American Buffalo," will open at the Belasco. Headlining "American Buffalo" are Cedric the Entertainer and John Leguizamo.

'Hair' receives final extension in the park While rumors continue to swarm that the Shakespeare in the Park production of "Hair" will soon transfer to Broadway, you can still catch it at the Delacorte Theatre for free. Early this week, the Public Theater gave "Hair" its third and final extension to Sept 14. Had there been no extensions, "Hair" would have closed last weekend.
