  • Kidd trade hits snag

ESPN's Mark Stein is reporting that Dallas' Devean George invoked the no-trade clause in his one-year contract, potentially scuttling the Mavericks' megatrade for Jason Kidd.

Let's assume this irritation gets cleared up. Here's the fantasy fallout, courtesy of amNY sports intern Erick Blasco.

This blockbuster trade may have a significant impact on your fantasy team even if you have no one involved in the trade. Jason Kidd has notched 12 triple-doubles this season for the Nets (23-29); his productivity will continue with the Mavs (34-17). Dallas, however, relies on mostly one-on-one play — the Mavs average only 20.2 assists per game against 36.3 field goals — so expect only a slight boost for Kidd's 10.4-assist average despite his move to a team with a more talented supporting cast. The trade impacts the rest of the Mavs starters — Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, and Jason Terry — more than Kidd himself. With Kidd on board, and with Dallas’ depth depleted, the Dallas offense should be even more prolific at getting Howard, Nowitzki, and Terry the ball in positions where they can score. Since Terry won’t play more than token minutes at the point anymore, his assist totals should drop even if his scoring rises. Only a decent scorer, Terry may no longer merit a starting spot in your lineup. Finally, with Kidd no longer triggering the New Jersey offense, every Nets’ fantasy value has plummeted. Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson should be shipped before their lowered value without Kidd begins to be evidenced in their play.
