  • Pink-slip party -- a sign of the times

They’re baaa-ack -- those Wall Street pink-slip parties. This one is a midtown benefit Tuesday night for Ronald McDonald House, but don’t kid yourself, there will be a lot of needy folk in attendance. Needy of a job, that is!

Networking gets under way at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Public House, 140 E. 41st St., at Lexington and Third. There’ll be $2 Buds/Bud Lights, $4 Bluecoat Gin Cocktails.

“Got misery?” the invite asks. “We’ve got company.” Bring along a resume and get some on-the-spot career coaching.

Pink-slip parties are a sign of the times. They began more or less spontaneously during the era of corporate raiders, when there were massive layoffs after companies were stripped of their assets and left with their debts. The burst of the dot.com bubble brought them back.

And now, they are derivatives of a crisis spawned by stinky loans and trashy tranches. Last call 8:30 p.m.

Sponsors include Dealbreaker.com, TheLadders.com and Public House.
