Katie Beers, a journey from victim to mother
Breaking 20 years of silence, Katie Beers remembers being a 10-year-old from Mastic who was abducted by a family friend, chained in an underground bunker where she was left alone in the flickering light of a television set except when her captor visited to molest and rape her. In her first ever published interview, Beers, who is now a 30-year-old married mother of two children, said, "Being abducted was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me..."
