That summer, he delivered the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. His opponent in the senate race was supposed to Jack Ryan. However, Ryan withdrew from the race amid sexual allegations by his ex-wife. Alan Keyes replaced Ryan on the ballot, and in the general election, Obama won easily, grabbing 70 percent of the vote.

Free to attack
Now we know why John McCain invited Sarah Palin onto the Republican ticket: She is the little rabid attack dog who will, with apparent impunity (because she is a woman), use innuendo and lies to attack Barack Obama on a personal basis. Shame on her....Tags: Sarah Palin, John McCain

Hounded by the press
As if they're not already dogged by enough rabid accusations, Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama (that's them on the right) had to endure this apparently accidental parody, courtesy of the journal Nature. In an ad on the back cover of the journal's...Tags: Newspaper and Magazine, John McCain

GOP word play
The Republicans love to use the term "maverick" when referring to John McCain. I think this word should belong to Barack Obama, if only for his opposition to the invasion of Iraq. John McCain not only voted for the war, but believes we must stay until...Tags: National Government, Republican Party, Government, John McCain, Pembroke Pines

Obama has likeness of JFK
I am a veteran of the U.S. Army. I was born in 1967 right here in Bethlehem. I never had the chance to listen to John Kennedy speak live, or his brother Bobby. When I was a little boy my uncle used to have a picture of John Kennedy on the wall over the...Tags: Iowa, Democratic National Conventions, Bethlehem (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania), John F. Kennedy

Lack Of Balance, Fairness
I would have to say Trinity College professor Thomas S. Harrington [Your View, Oct. 10, "Unequal Charges: When Balanced Is Not Fair"] does not know the meaning of fair and balanced. The Senate Ethics Committee investigated the Keating Five and issued...Tags: Trinity College, Connecticut, Waterford, John McCain

McCain the better choice
The presidential election is a close race between Barack Obama and John McCain. Although on certain views I agree with Obama, I believe John McCain is the better choice for America. With the current recession America is facing, many people are being laid...Tags: Petroleum Industry, Winter Springs, John McCain

Pay attention
I don't see how the majority of Republicans and Democrats picked either of these candidates to be our president for four or possibly eight years. There were other more qualified people in the process of primaries and caucuses. Pay attention to what...Tags: National Government, Upper House, Parliament, Government, John McCain

BEYOND TV
MAMA'S BOYS WANTED. NBC obviously feels optimistic about its new reality show "Momma's Boys," premiering Nov. 12, since they're already casting season 2. Jointly produced by Ryan Seacrest and the team behind "Average Joe," the series follows moms helping...Tags: Tina Fey, Frontline Limited, Television Industry, Television, Ryan Seacrest

Obama Lied About Ayers, McCain TV AD Alleges
Trailing in polls and searching for a way to gain ground, Republican John McCain assailed Democratic rival Barack Obama on Friday in a sharply worded TV ad that said: "When convenient, he worked with terrorist Bill Ayers. When discovered, he lied." At...Tags: National Government, Republican Party, Judges, Polls, Justice System
