Spring fashion: Hairstyles for the new season
Out with the old and in with the new!
This season, it’s time to experiment with color, a fresh cut or a chic style when it comes to hair.
The trend: Pops of color
Be daring and apply pops of vibrant color — such as pink or purple — on locks. Hair chalk is a simple way to try the trend without a full commitment, since it washes out in roughly 10 shampoos or less. Use chalk sparingly on small sections of clean, dry hair, says L’Oreal Professionnel Artist Jennifer MacDougall. Or try a color shampoo: A red one will create a killer hot-pink shade on blondes.

The trend: Long bob
A long bob is a huge trend this year. At the salon, ask for soft layers, says Oscar Blandi, owner of Oscar Blandi Salon. “Since it’s hard to keep hair straight in warm and humid weather, [layers] make it easier to have wave and body with a shorter style,” he says. A dry shampoo spray will keep hair voluminous and piecey, plus fight frizz.

The trend: Undone, textured braid
This update to the average braid creates an “effortlessly cool look,” says Sally Hershberger, owner of Sally Hershberger Salon. “It’s also great for second-day hair and busy girls on the go,” she adds. Spray and scrunch hair with a texture spray, braid hair (securing it with a clear elastic), then tug on the braid and loosen pieces all over. Finish the look with a volumizing spray.

The trend: Platinum locks
"The hot color trend for spring 2014 is platinum with a capital blonde," says Kyle White, lead colorist at Oscar Blandi Salon. Go with the hue all over, or, if that’s too extreme, add bright highlights or thick platinum chunks around the frame of the face.
