Summer makeup tutorials from SoHo's Pucker makeup studio
Beauty bars now specialize in everything from blow-outs and keratin treatments to teeth whitening and eyelash extensions, but what about makeup?
Pucker, a new SoHo spot that focuses on makeup applications for every occasion, is taking yet another red carpet treatment and making it mainstream. An ideal place to prepare for a night out, Pucker is also stocked with hair touch-up tools and dressing rooms, so you can walk out ready to go from head to toe. Plus, 2 percent of all sales are split between the Global Fund for Women and the Grace Institute, to provide low-income and unemployed New York women with skills training and job placement.
Julio Sandino, a celebrity makeup artist who opened Pucker with business partner Hiyam McKelvey after honing his skills at top designer runway shows and photo shoots, gives us three summer makeup looks to try at home.
Inspiration: "St. Tropez is a look inspired after the girls in the French Riviera who stay out of the sun and prefer a more natural, yet colorful look," Sandino says.
Get the look: 1. Use a light colored CC cream all over the face. 2. Contour softly with a light colored bronzer under the cheekbones and use a peach colored cream blush on the apple of the cheeks. 3. Use a sea foam green color eyeshadow on the top lid and soften the bridge and brow bone with a cream-colored, shimmery shade. 4. Layer mascara on top and bottom lashes. 5. Use a bright coral lip shade liberally and top off with an orange sorbet gloss to give a pouty effect to your lips. (Credit: Pucker)
Inspiration: "For the Capri look, I wanted the model looking like she spent three months having fun in the sun," Sandino says.
Get the look: 1. Even out skin with a dark to medium shade of CC cream. 2. Lightly use a powder bronzer all over the face. 3. Use a contour powder and peach color blush to accentuate the cheekbones. 4. Achieve a chocolate smoldering eye by using a dark chocolate eye shadow on both top and bottom lid. 5. Use black eyeliner in the inner lid of the eye with two coats of mascara on top and bottom lashes. 6. Use a red lipstick (I recommend Pucker’s creamy luxury lipstick, "Mayra") and top off with gloss. I recommend Pucker’s "Pretty Hurts." 7. To put the cherry on top, for the eyes, apply a set of fake lashes – like Pucker’s "Rome" set - to make them peepers pop. (Credit: Pucker)
Inspiration: "Carioca is a look inspired after the beautiful local women of Rio de Janeiro," Sandino says.
Get the look: 1. Use a cream foundation (the darkest shade possible that you can get away with!) to give you that sun-kissed look. 2. Use a peach-colored blush on the apple of the cheeks. 3. Color eyebrows in with a gel brow pencil. 4. Purple and gold were my inspiration on the eyes. Use a deep, rich purple on the lids and gold in the inner corner of the lid to give a royal, regal look to the eyes. 5. Use a deep purple on the lips, topped with a gloss. (I recommend Pucker’s "Deco Diva" lipstick topped off with Pucker's luxury gloss, "Runway.") (Credit: Pucker)
