Coney Island's Wonder Wheel amusement park kicks off summer-long 95th birthday celebration
Deno's Wonder Wheel first opened on Memorial Day in 1920. Ninety-five years later, the 150-foot-high ride is still amusing the masses at Coney Island.
On Monday, the family that owns the Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park kicked off a summer-long celebration of the 95th birthday of the ride by singing "Happy Birthday" and passing out cake. This first 95 people to ride got souvenir pins.
The family is calling this a warm-up party, with the big celebration on Aug. 8, History Day. We took a ride on the Wheel to help kick it off.
