Making the Underground Railroad case
Possible evidence of underground railroad activity at 233 Duffield St. in Brooklyn.
1. Some historians say the houses along Duffield Street were stops on the underground railroad.
2. Owner Lewis Greenstein looks at an alcove that once held a large cast iron stove for cooking meals in the basement.
3. Greenstein stands over a capped well that may have once delivered fresh water to fugitives hiding in the basement.
4. Greenstein says an underground tunnel connects the houses on the block and could have been used to ferry fugitives between hiding places.
5. Most compelling is what Greenstein says was a secret entry and exit into the basement from behind the house.
