Vintage vs. antique

We throw the word vintage around but do we really know what it means?

And what's the difference between vintage and antique?

The definitions are loose, but here's what one expert reckons. Anne Maxfield, CEO of Project Solvers, a fashion industry staffing firm in Manhattan, said she always thought of vintage as "old clothes that you don't want to admit are old."

Vintage items are "a little cooler and trendier" than antiques, Maxfield said.

An antique has a more technical definition as "something over 100 years old," she said.
