To leash or not to leash? NYers sound off
amNew York asked New Yorkers whether they think dogs should
have time to run off the leash. Here's what they had to say:
Jason Liebman, Park Slope dog owner
"It's a lot of people living in a small area and so many dog
owners, so you just have to be a little bit understanding. Just
avoid areas where the dogs are running because they don't run
everywhere."
Lori Oriucci, Sunset Park dog owner "Dogs are
companions to a lot of people, a lot of lonely people and disabled
people and that should be recognized. They need some rights and
that includes the ability to be free and off-leash for a while."
Mia Nitchun, Manhattan dog owner "I would have to move out
of the city (if off-leash hours were eliminated).
⦠Dogs need to be socialized. No dog can be
well behaved without enough exercise."
Rose Lake, Manhattan dog owner
"It would mean a lot of people would not consider getting
a dog. I live in a studio. It's critical for the well-being of a
dog."
Carey Camazine, Manhattan dog owner
Without off-leash hours, "there would be less places for dogs to go and play. There
are no large spaces. Dog runs tend to be small."
