Tips for sprucing up a small space
Stuck in a Manhattan microapartment? Don't think you have to sacrifice style for location. Carl Stibolt, founder and executive director of the interior design and decorating firm Pret-a-Habiter, says you can have it all - it just takes some creativity. Here are some design tips he suggests:
1. Place your bed lengthwise on a wall, and dress it with firm pillows for use as a "sofa" during the daytime.
2. Choose a coffee table that can be raised into a dining/work table.
3. Paint the ceilings white and the walls in a tone/color to give "height" to the room.
4. Choose furniture that is low to the ground to create the perception of more space, and stay away from bulky furniture.
5. Make sure some of your shelving/storage has doors so that your "messy stuff" is hidden.
