AMERICA'S ORDEAL
City Bars, Garden To Donate Proceeds
Whether sipping beer and wine at three Upper West Side taverns tonight, or enjoying the sights and sounds at the New York Botanical Garden this weekend, patrons will be helping to raise funds for survivors of the Twin Towers disaster, the families of those dead or missing, and rescue workers.
All admission fees from Garden visitors will be donated to the New York City Private Initiative, the city's recovery fund, a Garden spokeswoman said.
Curators will lead walking tours among edible, decorative and ornamental fall fruit trees and the rose and perennial gardens, which are at peak autumn bloom.
A Salsa Tram that takes visitors on musical excursions through the Garden, storytelling and mime performances for children, and two exhibitions in the Conservatory are among other activities planned for tomorrow and Sunday.
The management of three Upper West Side taverns, Dive 75, Dive Bar and Broadway Dive, will donate all of today's and tonight's receipts from all three establishments to the police and fire unions' Widows and Children's Funds. Bartenders will contribute their wages and tips as well.
Dive 75 is at 101 West 75th St. between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues, and is open from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. The Dive Bar is at 732 Amsterdam Ave. at 96th Street and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. The Broadway Dive is at 2662 Broadway, between 101st and 102nd streets, and is open from noon to 4 a.m.
Donations also may be mailed to the Detectives' Endowment Association, 26 Thomas St., New York, N.Y. 10007. Checks should be made payable to "The Widows and Children's Fund."
