Pol announces Web site to fight fare hike
Searching for ways to stop a fare hike next year, City Councilman Joseph Addabbo (D-Queens) yesterday suggested the city consider increasing its funding for transit and that the MTA sell corporate sponsorship of subway stations. Addabbo announced the creation of a Web site, www.fightthehike08.com , where opponents of the proposed July 2009 increase can sign a petition against it.
The MTA faces an operating budget deficit of roughly $900 million next year. To close that budget gap, the agency has included an 8 percent increase in fare and toll revenue in its preliminary budget for next year.
