NY mass transit boss gives 1st State of the MTA speech

NEW YORK - The executive director of the agency that runs New York's mass transit system is holding the first State of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority address.

Elliot Sander's State of the MTA address Monday takes place two days after the 40th anniversary of the MTA's founding.

An MTA spokesman says Sander reviewed the agency's accomplishments, described its current challenges and looked at its next 40 years.

Following the speech Sander will answer questions from students and talk to reporters.

Then the MTA's divisions will present a transportation science and technology fair and an MTA career fair.

The event is taking place at the Great Hall of the Cooper Union college.
