SOUTHINGTON, Conn. - ( AP) _ Shock jock Howard Stern thinks she's a
"hot wife," but elementary schoolteacher Marie Jarry's appearance
on Stern's raunchy satellite radio show left her bosses steaming.
Jarry resigned from her job as a second-grade teacher at
Thalberg Elementary School in Southington days after she wore a
bikini and talked about her sex life while appearing with her
husband on Stern's show.
The couple won $5,000 in the show's "Ugliest Dude, Hottest
Wife" contest.
Her husband, Aaron Jarry, told the show Thursday that his wife
faced a "good amount of pressure" to step down, according to
Stern's Web site, which has posted pictures of the couple's
appearance.
"We were OK ... but then the local news media got a hold of
it," he told Stern. The story was reported by the Record-Journal
of Meriden and local television stations.
A phone message seeking comment was left at the Jarrys' home in
Farmington Friday.
Southington Superintendent of Schools Joseph Erardi Jr. denied
that Jarry was forced to resign, but said he was upset that she
missed work to appear on the show.
"It's certainly my expectation that all staff, unless they're
sick, are at work doing their assigned task," he told The
Associated Press. He said he accepted Jarry's resignation Monday.
Stern said on Thursday's show that he believed Marie Jarry
should not have had to resign because she did not take her clothes
off or say anything controversial.
Local parents and members of the Parent-Teacher Organization
said they were shocked by the events, the Record-Journal reported.
PTO members said Jarry was a good teacher, but they believed she
made a wrong choice going on Stern's show.
The Howard Stern Show is on Sirius Satellite Radio, which has
more than 8 million subscribers who pay monthly fees. Messages
seeking comment from Stern were left with Sirius.
