Owning a machete could make you an outlaw in New York in the near future.
A New York state lawmaker wants to ban the possession of the long blades after a spate of attacks, the Daily News reported Thursday. Violators might get up to a year in prison.
“The fact that anyone can easily purchase this potentially lethal tool is just crazy,” state Sen. Tony Avella of Queens told the newspaper.
The Daily News reported that switchblades and gravity knives, which are smaller, are already banned under state law.
