A 77-year-old man was found dead on the Coney Island boardwalk Monday morning, steps from the neighborhood's famous rides, and authorities have no indication of how long he was out in the freezing temperatures.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was found face up near Stillwell Avenue at about 7:15 a.m., police said. At the time he was found, the temperature was about 4 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
He had no visible trauma to his body and was pronounced dead on the boardwalk.
The medical examiner will determine his exact cause of death.
About one to three inches of snow is expected Monday night, according to the National Weather Service. Another few inches of snow is possible Tuesday, with a high near 25 degrees.
