A 38-year-old man was stabbed in the chest while riding a PATH train in the city Tuesday, said Port Authority Spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The man was attacked at about 5:40 p.m. while the train was traveling between 33rd and 23rd streets, Pentangelo said. The suspect, who had a goatee and was wearing a black knit hat and a beige coat, jumped off the train at 33rd Street and ran.

The circumstances and motive surrounding the stabbing were not immediately clear.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, but his condition was not immediately known, Pentangelo said.
