The memorial has two semi-enclosed "Memorial Sanctuaries" into the Earth. Each sanctuary contains a votive light suspended above a large reflecting pool. Surrounding the sanctuaries is a landscaped park. The slurry wall is exposed to the West. The "Liberty Wall" at the South is engraved with text about the World Trade Center and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The sanctuaries contain a quiet area for contemplation.
