Quinn on the issues

Her relationship with Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
We both try very hard to get as much done as we possibly can for all of the people in the city that we're charged with representing so we've got a very kind of focused, let's-see-what-we-can-get-done relationship. It doesn't mean we agree all the time.

Same-sex marriages:
I think groups have come to me for advice and strategic help. For some, it was an accomplishment that an openly gay person can get a political position such as this. No one in the LBGT (lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender) community thinks one person can get this thing done.

Affordable housing:
Affordable housing was simply not on the agenda for the eight years of the Giuliani administration or not on the agenda in any significant way. I think the city is suffering now because of that. So I think the mayor, by putting out some bold goals, is doing a good job and doing the right thing.

Nightlife safety:
Now nightlife is a great thing for the city. It's part of what makes New York New York, and it's a $9 to $10 billion economic engine in the city. But you can't allow the few bad operators out there to go unchecked in a way that really puts people in potential danger.

Restaurant resistance to trans-fat ban:
When we passed the smoking ban, you would've thought that every nightclub in the city of New York was going to close down. It was going to be horrible. There was going to be mass chaos and unemployment. None of that has happened. It's worked out fine, and I think once the transition goes into effect, you'll see the same thing with trans-fat.
