The Mets and Bobby Parnell have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year deal, the team announced on Friday. Parnell will earn $3.7 million in 2014 and can earn an additional $50,000 if he appears in 60 games, Joel Sherman reported.

Whether he's rehabbing from Tommy John surgery or not, you're still going to strike out against Matt Harvey.

A seemingly harmless tweet from the Mets phenom at 6:14 a.m. Monday morning drew the ire of a Yankees fan on Twitter. That comment prompted a rebuke from Harvey and eventually the righthander fired a few well placed metaphorical fastballs to end the interaction.

Here's how the...

Mets: “Whatever u wanna do. FYI - not really looking for anything long-term.”

Drew: “OIC.”

Red Sox: “Chillin’...

Sandy Alderson – fresh off being named the best GM in baseball by New York Magazine – still has some work to do. But the Mets’ roster for 2014 is beginning to take shape, so here’s how we see things shaking out based on the players currently on the 40-man roster (or those reportedly already in the mix but not officially added yet):

Lineup

1. Eric Young Jr., LF 2. Daniel Murphy, 2B 3....

(Credit: Jim McIsaac)

If nothing else, it's greatness by contrast.

Compared to his predecessor, Omar Minaya, current Mets GM Sandy Alderson has been a miracle worker. He's turned expensive soon-to-be free agents into valuable, controllable prospects and has even spent a little bit of money this winter, on (largely) sensible deals.

For the first time since 2008, the Mets are truly on the verge of contention...

They were considered aces in the making.

Phil Hughes was ranked the No. 4 prospect in the game by Baseball America before the 2007 season, a near-certain pillar of Yankees rotations for years to come.

Mike Pelfrey was rated the No. 20 prospect in the game by Baseball America that same year, and it appeared just a matter of time before he was leading a promising Mets squad to multiple...
