The restaurants of summer
Getting Gallic
So, you haven't gotten to France this summer. Make the best of things with a Gallic dinner -- or, for that matter, breakfast -- in the city. Here are some of our favorite Frenchified places, all over town
Lobster: on a roll
As the weather heats up, we go looking for that ultimate New England treat: lobster rolls. Here's where we found them.
New and notable: restaurants for the season
As far as summer food is concerned the best thing to do is keep it simple. Go for an oyster po'boy, maybe, or perfectly roasted chicken. Think of lobster rolls and fried clams. All-American barbecue. Plain grilled fish, or a spicy paella. All these things are our favorites for summer, and here are 10 notable places all over town that serve them up.
Drinks that lift your spirits
First there was the $29 burger. Now there's the $125 cocktail. That would be the prickly pear margarita served at the Dos Caminos restaurants in the Flatiron district and Soho.
Barbecue New York
Barbecue is booming in New York these days. The perfume of the pits wafts from Woodbury woodpiles and West Village meeting places, from mobile pits in Rego Park and Staten Island to multimillion-dollar restaurants all over Manhattan.
New and Notable restaurants on the East End
It would hardly be summer on the East End without a flurry of grand entrances onto the local dining scene. So, who are this season's debutantes?
Eat cheap
Everybody has a favorite restaurant. But what everybody wants to know is: Where do you go for a meal on the cheap? Here are some of our favorite places where you can eat well, and not break the bank.
Pasta, pasta, and more pasta
Spaghetti, tortellini, ziti. Fusili, lasagne, rigatoni. With meatballs, with anchovies, with lobster. With red sauce, with carbonara sauce, with clam sauce, with alfredo sauce. However you look at it, pasta is one of our favorite foods. Here's where to find it.
Beer Gardens, Wine Bars -- and a Margarita Cafe
There's nothing better than a late-afternoon break for an ice-cold bevvie and a snack.
All-American Burgers
What's more comforting than a classic burger -- thick, juicy, done to a T and capped with melted cheese.
Where to have a summer brunch
Whether you're looking for pancakes or something a little more esoteric -- a big bowl of melie pap, say, or tea-smoked salmon -- here's where to go on a summery Sunday.
They're the tops
Even the most plebian of rooftop restaurants takes on a certain glamour based solely on its distance from street level. Here are some of our favorite places at the top of the town.
Shore thing: 10 places to dine by the water
Here is a selection of places to eat -- or just sip a drink -- by the water's edge.
Lobster your way
Lobster -- broiled, steamed, stuffed, or mixed with mayo in a salad -- is the quintessential taste of summer. Here are some of our favorite places to find it.
