Political chatter from DC and NYC, the amNewYork way
McCain's straight talk not so clear
Sen. John McCain was visibly stumped by a reporters question regarding a comment made by his campaign co-chair, Carly Fiorina. Earlier this week, Ms. Fiorina stated:
There are many health insurance plans that will cover Viagra but wont cover birth-control medication. These women would like a choice.
A reporter mentioned to Sen. McCain on his Straight Talk Express that he voted against legislation requiring insurance coverage of birth control and Fiorinas comment suggested it wasnt fair that Viagra is covered and birth control is not as one of the arguments against birth control being covered is the personal nature of its use.
The reporter then asked, Is that still your position?
I dont recall the vote right now, but Ill look at my voting record and get back to you.
(continued) Do you have an opinion? The reporter persisted in reference to Ms. Fiorinas comment.
And our dear Sen. McCain bravely stood his ground and said:
I dont know enough about it to give you an informed answer. I dont recall the vote. ... Ive cast thousands of votes. ..."
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps he didnt vote on Viagra coverage at all ...
