Rue McClanahan is for Obama!
In a sweltering hot gay disco, packed shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of adoring fans (in a space that can only, comfortably, accommodate about 75), Rue McClanahan candidly answered audience questions signed copies of her book, "My First Five Husbands ... and the Ones Who Got Away."
While most asked questions that centered around her experiences on the popular television show "Golden Girls" where she starred as Blanche Devereuax a sophisticated, man-hungry Southern belle one audience member did manage to squeeze in a political question.
"Rue!" he shouted from back. "As a Southerner, John McCain or Barack Obama?"
The audience groaned at the question, fearing that the gravitas of the subject would ruin the nature of the event, but the sassy septuagenarian proved she was up for the challenge.
She started slowly, ruefully: "The country's in trouble ... and there is only one man for the job."
The room fell silent, no one really knowing whom she would name as the country's savior.
"That man," she said, putting her hands on her hips matter-of-factly, "is Barack Obama!"
The crowd exploded in applause and cheers, signifying their approval. With this crowd, her answer was golden.
