Political chatter from DC and NYC, the amNewYork way

What to know when you hit the polls

Be a part of history. If you’re an eligible voter, here are some voting essentials:

* Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

* If you don’t know where your voting site is, visit vote-ny.com.

* Registered voters won’t likely need to present ID for proof of address, but bring your driver’s license, another photo ID or a utility bill just in case.

* If you have registered but aren’t listed in poll books at your site, ask to vote by paper affidavit ballot.

* Don’t wear clothing or buttons supporting a candidate or referendum within 100 feet of the polls. If you do, poll workers will likely ask you to remove the buttons or zip up your coat to hide the T-shirt.

Call (212) VOTE-NYC if you have other questions.
