From Reese Witherspoon and Demi Moore to Rihanna and Katy Perry, A-list stars love Zac Posen.

Now the designer, whose glam gowns are known for their powerful, sexy sillhouettes, has a new collection geared towards the fashionable everyday woman.

The collection consists of 12 new dresses that Posen calls "clean, simple, flirty, sophisticated and accessible." Sold exclusively at Lord & Taylor under the Z Spoke line, they range in price from $149 to $199.

"These dresses can take you from 9 to 5 and then into the evening," Posen said. "What's important when you're building a collection at this price point is that you have the ability to be able to dress it up or down."

In simple feminine shapes in black, white, red and grey in fabrics including hammered charmuese, floral lace and bondage jersey, the Z Spoke frocks are more classic than trendy.

Still, as a born and bred New Yorker living in Manhattan's SoHo, Posen has an eye for the city's trends.

"I've been seeing a lot of great florals," he said, "lots of seersucker on women, which is nice because it brings a more traditional masculine suiting look into lighter spring dressing. There are lots of interesting colors, what I call Indian summer colors-- really interesting yellows mixed with bright oranges and reds."

If you happen to bump into Posen on the street and you're not wearing one of the moment's hottest looks, don't fret. His approach to fashion is quite open-minded, maybe because he's been in the industry since age 16.

"I truly don't believe that there are fashion laws and rules," he said. "I believe it's continuously evolving and changing and often things that are no-nos become right on the right person and then it becomes a thing for people to try to follow."

That being said, there are a few styles where he draws the line. On his list of fashion don'ts? Flip-flops in the workplace. "There's something unhygenic about it," he said. "I'm OK with some espadrilles, even rubber-soled gladitator-type sandals. But flip-flops should stay on the beach."

Another look to avoid, according to Posen, is short shorts with platform shoes, especially close-toed.

"I still love Mariah Carey, but she's about the only one who can pull that off," he said.

Posen said Hollywood's young starlets like Chloe Moretz, Felicity Jones and Scarlett Johansson, as well as Manhattan socialite Olivia Palermo, would look great in his new collection.

But what about stylish shoppers who don't spend their time on the red carpet?

"I think the key for a fashionable woman who can't attain designer prices should really be investing in quality, not quantity," Posen said. "I believe in mixing and matching brands. Know and study your body and what silhouettes look good on you and find accent accessories. Between the components of sunglasses, a bag, jewelry and a shoe, you can really transform any outfit."

Posen's new Z Spoke dresses are available on Long Island at Lord & Taylor stores in Garden City, Manhasset, Huntington Station, Bay Shore and Massapequa and online at LordandTaylor.com.
